Reverend Luis Cortes, founder and CEO of Esperanza in Philadelphia and well-known Latino leader at the national level, urges our elected leaders to recognize the Latino community in Pennsylvania as the primary driver of population growth. Reverend Cortes states, “It’s time for at least one congressional district in Pennsylvania to have Hispanics as the second-largest group, given the growth of our population in many areas across the Commonwealth. A district with Hispanics as the second largest group would be easy to draw and would begin to give Hispanic people the representation they deserve, reflecting their significant and growing presence. Creation of such a district would be a historic moment for Pennsylvania and our Hispanic communities, doing justice to the diversity of the present, and pointing toward the future growth we know is coming as well.”
