Free Family Fundays at the Kimmel Center
Musicopia: Música, Danza y Artes Marciales Afrobrasileñas. Es una mañana libre de música y movimiento en el Centro Kimmel. Las solicitudes están abiertas para el Fondo de Prevención de Sobredosis y Curación Comunitaria. La Ciudad de Filadelfia ha anunciado el lanzamiento del Fondo de Prevención de Sobredosis y Curación Comunitaria, un programa de toda la ciudad que otorgará subvenciones a organizaciones comunitarias confiables que trabajan con comunidades afectadas por la crisis de sobredosis en Filadelfia.
Las subvenciones transformarán los fondos de liquidación de opioides en esfuerzos de prevención y curación comunitaria a través de un proceso impulsado por la comunidad. Se dará mayor consideración a las organizaciones que prestan servicios en áreas altamente afectadas como es Kensington y el norte de Filadelfia. Las solicitudes deben presentarse el 3 de febrero del 2023 a las 5:00 pm EST. Todas las solicitudes de subvenciones serán revisadas por un comité de selección de subvenciones, el cual entregara las recomendaciones finales en la primavera de 2023.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) today announced that –for the first time in more than 12 years– the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program will open its waiting list. HCV (formerly known as Section 8) is a federal government program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. With the current waiting list now exhausted, PHA will open the list by accepting on-line applications at www.pha.phila.gov for a two-week period from Monday, January 23 at 6:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 5 at 5:59 pm.

Dance Theatre of Harlem at Penn Live Arts
Renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem performers return to Penn Live Arts for a program featuring two world premieres: William Forsythe’s Blake Works IV (The Barre Project) — described as a love letter to dancers — and Robert Garland’s Higher Ground, which features soulful tunes from Stevie Wonder. Tickets are required for the performances, which kick off at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday. At Penn Live Arts, 3680 Walnut Street, January 20-21.

If you’re in the market for some fresh ink or just want to see some of the best tattoo artists in the biz in action, head to the Philadelphia Tattoo Arts Convention, where hundreds of tattooers decorate eager human canvases all weekend long. Matisse in the 1930s at the Museum of Art
By 1930, Henri Matisse — one of the giants of 20th-century art — had achieved significant international renown, yet he found himself in a deep creative slump. The turning point came in the fall of that year with a commission to decorate the main gallery of the Barnes Foundation, then located in Merion, PA. The resulting monumental mural, The Dance (1930–33), turned Matisse’s artistic practice around. Opening first in Philadelphia, the only U.S. venue, Matisse in the 1930s contains 143 renowned and rarely seen paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and illustrated books. Matisse in the 1930s is on view now through January 29, 2023.

Electrical Light Show in Franklin Square
Franklin Square celebrates the winter season with nightly spectacle of light shows inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s legendary kite and key experiment. Free light shows —set to a soundtrack of seasonal tunes— illuminate the square every 30 minutes from 5 p.m. until close. Before or after the show, grab a burger or beverage fireside from the on-site Square Burger, play a round of festive Chilly Philly Mini Golf or hop aboard the classic Park Liberty Carousel.
