PENNSYLVANIA – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro and the Harris for President campaign brought together over 300 Pennsylvanians to kick off a weekend of action in the Commonwealth. Today’s rally builds on the unprecedented level of engagement which highlights the groundswell of support for Vice President Harris’ campaign. See below for key excerpts from the Governor’s remarks today and his full remarks here: You know who else I learned that from, from a good friend of mine for nearly 20 years, the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. “Because, listen, she is someone who has always been for the people. I knew her when she was a courtroom prosecutor. And let me tell you something, she is tough as nails. We’ve seen her stand up for victims. We’ve seen her stand up for those who’ve been harmed. We’ve seen her stand up and do what is right. We saw it in the courtroom. We’ve also seen it in the halls of power. When she was attorney general, she took on the big banks. She took on big pharmaceutical companies. And then Joe Biden, our great president, chose her to stand beside him, to run with him, to serve with him, to govern with him, and to be there for the American people with him as Vice President, she has been battle tested. She has been there. She is ready for the battle ahead, and most importantly, she is ready to serve as the 47th president of the United States.” Thanks to President Biden, Vice President Harris, we got the largest federal investment in our infrastructure history in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to rebuild that road, despite the fact that Scott Perry voted against it, because he doesn’t care about this community. Because when people in this community say what they need, he turns a blind eye to them, and instead, he chases the fringe down the road in a way that makes us all less safe, less prosperous, and undermines our democracy. Are you with me to elect you with me to elect Janelle to the US Congress?” CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHOWING UP FOR DEMOCRATS “I know you got the power to do that, because I’ve seen what you did for me, and so I just want to take a minute, a minute of personal privilege here to say thank you. Thank you to Cumberland County for giving me the opportunity, the highest honor to serve as the 48th Governor of this great Commonwealth, to give me the opportunity to serve all Pennsylvanians, and to do so in a way that stays true, yes to our democracy, but to also three simple letters, GSD. We focus on getting stuff done for the good people of Pennsylvania. “We figured out a way to bring Republicans and Democrats together to make the largest investment in public education in the history of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, investing in public safety and seeing record low crime levels across the board, investing in economic opportunity, because we believe here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, everyone, no matter what they look like, where they come from, who they love or who they pray to, should have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed. We’ve stood tall every single day defending your fundamental freedoms, and every single day I put people before the powerful. I learned that from all of you.” |
