Ante la exigencia de diversidad

Los expertos de los medios, los activistas sociales, la derecha y la izquierda están examinando esta administración entrante para ver cuán diversas podrían ser las nominaciones y su nivel de experiencia.

Tenemos derecho a exigir que el gobierno se parezca a sus ciudadanos y que tenga personas altamente calificadas en esos puestos. Queremos lo mejor para nuestro país, así como nos gustaría que los mejores médicos nos esperaran al llegar a una emergencia hospitalaria habitación.

Tomemos un momento para revisar a todos los elegidos por la ahora administración saliente, y los que eligió para gestionar los importantes negocios de nuestro país, la salud y seguridad de sus ciudadanos.

Y aquellos de ustedes que son halcones diversos y expertos, ¿qué dijeron cuando tantos extraños fueron elevados a cargos tan importantes y delicados dentro de nuestro gobierno?

Ah, y por cierto … ¿qué pasa con su propia diversidad? Mire su círculo de amigos, comunidad y socios comerciales. Cuán diversa es su vida diaria y se esfuerza a sí mismo y a los demás para ampliar sus experiencias de vida a nuestro alrededor.

Por suerte y por casualidad, he tenido la oportunidad de asistir a servicios religiosos de diferentes culturas e incluso he pasado tiempo con los llamados paganos. Estas experiencias me han hecho comprender mejor la vida.

Y sí, incluso políticamente tengo familiares y amigos que no siempre están de acuerdo con mi política del momento.

Si bien podría parecer que acepto más diversidad que la mayoría, no siempre fue así. Estos son algunos cambios difíciles de digerir.

1. Esa guerra no siempre fue la solución
2. Que los latinos no eran el único pueblo elegido por Dios
3. Que otras etnias eran tan valiosas como la mía
4. La igualdad de la mujer
5. El poder de elección
6. La aceptación de las personas LGBTQ como mis iguales
7. La necesidad de justicia ambiental
8. Que las personas con capacidades diferentes eran tan inteligentes o más ique yo
9. Ese poder en todos los niveles puede corromper
10. Que ser promedio está bien
11. Que la buena apariencia no equivale a un buen cerebro
12. Que luchar por lo que es correcto no siempre es el camino más fácil.

Esta es solo una lista corta de los desafíos que he tenido y estoy teniendo para construir la diversidad en mi propia vida.

A medida que exigimos la diversidad de los demás, también debemos abrir nuestras propias vidas a la diversidad, que es donde podemos volvernos más inteligentes, más fuertes y comprensivos con los demás. Sabemos que la diversidad nos ayudará a tomar mejores decisiones que beneficiarán más y no menos.

DEMAND THAT BIDEN’S CABINET AND ADMINISTRATION BE DIVERSE

The media pundits, the social activists, the right, and the left are all examining this incoming administration to see how diverse the nominations and their level of expertise might be.

We have a right to demand that our government look like its citizens and that it has highly qualified individuals in those position. We want the best for our country. just as we would like the best doctors waiting for us as we arrive at a hospital emergency room and by the way when was the last time. if ever that you saw someone WHEELCHAIR BOUND nominated to a top position by an elected administration.

But wait a minute and let us take a moment to review all those chosen by the now outgoing administration and those it chose to manage the important business of our country and the health and safety of its citizens.

And those of you who are diverse and expert hawks, what did you say when so many strange persons were elevated to such important and delicate positions within our government?

Oh, and by the way, what about your own diversity look at your circle of friends, community, and business associates. Just how diverse is your everyday life and do you push yourself and others to expand their experiences of life around us.

By luck and some chance, I have had the opportunity to attend religious services of different cultures and even have spent time with so-called heathens. These experiences have made me more understanding of life.

And yes, even politically I have family and friends that do not always agree with my politics of the moment.

While I might look like I accept more diversity than most it was not always that way. let me list some changes that were most difficult to understand.

1. That war was not always the solution
2. That Latinos were not the only chosen people of God
3. That other ethnicities were as valuable as mine
4. The equality of women
5. The power of choice
6. The acceptance of LGBTQ individuals as my equals
7. The need for environmental justice
8. That differently abled people were as smart or smarter than me
9. That power at all levels can corrupt
10. That being average is okay
11. That good looks do not equal good brains
12. That fighting for what is right is not always the easiest path.

This is just a shortlist of challenges I have had and am having in building diversity in my own life.

As we demand diversity of others, we should also open our own lives to diversity which is where we can become smarter, stronger, and more understanding of others. And we know that diversity will help us to make better decisions that will benefit more and not less.
