Philadelphia, PA – As the nation braces for a potential surge in immigration enforcement under the incoming Trump administration, immigrant rights advocates are mobilizing to demand a more humane and just immigration policy. A rally and march are scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Liberty Bell to amplify these demands.

The rally aims to urge the Biden administration to dismantle the remnants of the Trump-era immigration policies that have led to mass detentions, deportations and family separations.

Participants will call on the administration to prioritize the protection of immigrant, migrant, and refugee lives, and to implement policies that promote integration and inclusivity.

Key demands include:

  • Ending immigrant detention: The immediate closure of immigrant detention centers and the release of detained individuals.
  • Halting detention expansion: Preventing the expansion of the immigrant detention system would further exacerbate the human rights crisis.
  • Exercising prosecutorial discretion: Enforcing prosecutorial discretion to cancel pending deportation cases and prioritize cases based on public safety concerns.
  • Reversing border restrictions: Lifting the restrictive border policies implemented under the Trump administration, which have limited access to asylum and other forms of humanitarian relief.
  • Protecting undocumented immigrants: Utilizing presidential pardoning power to protect undocumented individuals from deportation.

By mobilizing and raising their voices, immigrant rights advocates hope to send a strong message to the Government: it is time to build a more compassionate and just immigration system.
