Many federal government employees woke up recently to the notice that they had been fired.

Was it because of fraud or terrible employment reviews? No, there is no evidence of any rhyme or reason behind these thousands of firings.

In addition, the Trump administration has targeted people of color and females in top military positions. And this is despite Trump getting many votes from women and people of color.

Some say that the Trump administration is planning to eliminate 200,000 federal jobs.     

Now, these fired employees, along with their friends, in response to this attack on good American workers, are demanding a stop to this indiscriminate firing of federal employees and the destruction of federal programs that benefit farms and local communities.

Many of those storming these town halls had probably never been to one before, let alone confronted a MAGA elected official.

Governors and other elected officials say there are no jobs in their area for these employees to walk into now that they have been fired.

The governor of Virginia said that he still supports this MAGA effort and that he will be developing a program to help those fired. He cannot get them jobs but will probably offer resume writing programs and lessons on how to interview for a job. The problem is that there are no jobs out there that could be equivalent to the jobs these men and women have had to leave.

Northern Virginia will be hit especially hard, given the high number of Federal Employees living in that area.

It was thought in the past that if you got a federal job, it was the best security ever giving one a decent wage, medical benefits, sick leave, maternity leave, bereavement leave, vacation, and a retirement nest egg. And if you succeed at your job, you just might have a chance for a further upgrade, and if you are lucky, you might even be covered by a union contract.

That kind of job with those benefits is hard to find.

Those fired will not have the money to spend at the local shops and businesses.

During COVID, we lost many small businesses, and many could barely survive because of Federal programs that gave them some financial assistance.

None of that federal support exists today.

Towns and businesses where layoffs are occurring will suffer also from the lack of money being spent and many small businesses cannot endure another setback. In the weeks to come we will see stores, restaurants, and others having to let employees go and thus add to the economic turmoil within their communities.

These laid-off workers have to figure out how to pay their mortgage and car payments, and figure out how to get medical coverage. Vacations, college funds, and any other luxury items like eating out will be put on hold. Many will visit a food pantry for the first time, as well as look at all the public assistance programs.

It will be a difficult reality for them since they never thought their government could be so cruel.

The thought is that many who have been fired did not object to the attacks on immigrants, and some even joined in cheering on the racism, even though it was all based on lies.

They were told that immigrants were taking their jobs and would destroy America.

Now that they have lost their jobs and their resumes forever, for they were fired, they might want to reconsider their previous positions in the MAGA gang. The White House is their enemy, not the humble immigrants.

With all the talk of tariffs, countries scheduled to purchase from our farmers are now seeking other sources for grain and meat products. Many farmers could go out of business, as could food stores and farm equipment companies. Many farmers have purchased equipment and upgraded their farms in response to federal grants that had been offered, and now they have to pay out of pocket for these contracts.

Many international assistance programs funded by USAID have been eliminated or put on hold, and many religious group’s programs and their staff have been affected by these actions.

We must find a way to give all those fired access to food and shelter while the Trump team is trying to get more tax relief for the super-rich.

MAGA still says they will save millions by these firings. But they really cannot save money, given that they are spending billions of dollars building the wall and paying for the deportation of many people who have no criminal records. We will be deporting individuals who are an essential part of a strong economic system.

These massive firings and abolition of programs have created economic sinkholes across our country and are causing the most painful economic conditions since the great depression.

Our enemies abroad are nothing compared to our enemies within.
