Paris – Since the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Latin American athletes have demonstrated exceptional performance, as evidenced by their haul of 12 medals: 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. This achievement highlights the region’s presence and talent at one of the world’s most important sporting events.
At the end of the first day of August, five Latin American countries have positioned themselves in the medal standings, with Guatemala leading the pack at 23rd place, thanks to their outstanding performance in shooting sports: Adriana Ruano won gold, and Jean Pierre Brol took bronze.
Argentina and Ecuador are tied at 26th place, each with a gold medal: Argentina’s José Torres Gil excelled in BMX Freestyle cycling, while Brian Daniel Pintado of Ecuador won in the 20-kilometer race walk.
Brazil, in 30th place, has amassed a total of six medals: three silver and three bronze. Caio Bonfim earned silver in the men’s 20 km race walk, and William Lima won silver in judo (-66 kg category). Additionally, Rayssa Leal claimed bronze in women’s street skateboarding, while Larissa Pimenta and the women’s artistic gymnastics team secured bronze in their respective disciplines.
Mexico is the fifth Latin American country to make it into the ranking, in 35th place, thanks to the bronze won by their women’s archery team and the silver by judoka Prisca Awiti in the women’s 63 kg category.
