Mi Salud Wellness Center, located at 200 E Wyoming Avenue, hosted a family health and wellness event on May 22nd, from 2 pm-5 pm, followed by their regular food distribution. Esperanza’s Housing and Economic Development division participated in the event, helping to host a pop-up clinic alongside Miriam Medical Clinics; the clinic provided COVID-19 vaccines, health communication materials, free COVID-19 testing kits, and health screenings for blood pressure and glucose. Esperanza’s Housing Counseling division was also present, helping to sign people up for Benephilly programs.

In addition, Mi Salud Wellness Center welcomed a host of other vendors, including Vida Sana Vida Feliz, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the Eagles’ Mobile Eye Exam unit, The Food Trust, State Representative Danilo Burgos’ office, and more to offer a broad range of services, information, and programs to community members.

There was even free water ice and Zumba dancing! Keila Canete, President of Mi Salud Wellness, said about the event, “It was great to see health providers and community organizations participate in this event, and share the ‘wealth of health information’ and provide the community such important health screenings!”

The event was well attended, with an estimated 80 community residents and their children coming through the doors for bilingual services, information and to enjoy cool treats and air conditioning on a very hot day. One attendee told an Esperanza representative that he was grateful for the “kind and welcoming” treatment he received during his screening and was happy to take home flyers about upcoming events and other programs to his family.

Mi Salud Wellness Center is an important provider of health and social services in the Feltonville community. They provide health education, food, and clothing distribution (including the popular senior food box distribution program), health screenings, family and youth programs, nutrition programs, workshops, and community events like the one on May 22nd. According to Keila, “Mi Salud Wellness Center offers the community much needed health programs and services.” She added that “We are grateful to all the wonderful community partners that have enabled Mi Salud to serve the community, we are in our 3rd year of operation, and are continually looking for ways to meet the needs of the community.”

Esperanza is proud to partner with Mi Salud Wellness Center on community health initiatives like this event. Both organizations are already talking about future collaborations in the fall, so stay tuned!
