In 1969, Jefferson Airplane performed their iconic song «Volunteers» at Woodstock, calling for change. Today, we face a similar need for a non-violent revolution in America. We must rally everyone to protect our Constitution and democracy. This isn’t just about electing the first female president of the United States; it’s about restoring balance in America, and history is calling on us, the Volunteers of America, to do what is right and just.
Currently, so-called third-party candidates like Jill Stein of the Green Party, Cornell West and Robert Kennedy Jr. act as potential spoilers for the election, effectively serving as «stalking horses» for Trump. Although Kennedy has endorsed Trump, the others have not, but their presence on the ballot risks siphoning votes away from other candidates, indirectly boosting Trump. Some even argue that Stein’s campaign has ties to Russian interests.
This presidential race is extremely close, with control of the Senate and the House also at stake, and many states still up for grabs. Trump’s advantage lies in his dedicated base, which comprises 40-45% of voters who remain loyal to him despite his controversial actions and statements. They overlook his missteps, his public speaking gaffes, and his far-right policies. These supporters will turn out to vote for him no matter what, making him a formidable opponent.
Most experts predict a nail-biter on November 5th, with a few even suggesting a potential landslide. Kamala Harris has faced the biggest challenge of her career by entering the presidential race late, yet she has made a significant impact. Her early endorsements and impressive fundraising efforts have ignited momentum; she raised over $28 million in her latest fundraiser, bringing her total to over $1 billion—an unprecedented feat for any candidate in such a short period.
Trump has strong backing from figures like Elon Musk, Fox News, Kid Rock, Dennis Quaid, Roseanne Barr and Kanye West. However, Kamala has the support of a star-studded roster including Oprah Winfrey, Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Taylor Swift, Dolores Huerta, Eva Longoria and many more.
Across the country, people are making calls to swing states, sending postcards, and even traveling to help with grassroots efforts. Friends from Seattle are working in Pennsylvania, members of the Latino/a Roundtable of California are heading to Arizona, and the United Farm Workers are mobilizing in Nevada and Arizona.
If you believe in our Constitution and democracy, it’s time to use every network at your disposal to get out the vote. This is not an election to sit out and analyze from the sidelines.
The issue of abortion rights is also on the ballot in 10 states, including key battlegrounds like Nevada and Arizona, which is expected to drive higher turnout among women voters.
Every vote matters. We must get everyone we know to cast their ballots. Today, we need you—Volunteers of America.
