It is clear after only a few weeks that JD did not bring a positive bump for the campaign. Instead, he left the convention with a negative rating, and the opposition research found outlandish comments that continue to weigh him and the campaign down.
Because he was a Senator from Ohio, a Midwestern state, and conservative, some in the campaign argued that he could help bring in many needed votes in these swing states. But as of today, there is no positive voter movement in this geographical area.
Not so long ago, Vance was a harsh critic of Trump and overnight flipped over, beginning to support Trump and his MAGA movement. This got him nominated as the Vice Presidential candidate. Additionally, it was hoped that he would bring in mega money from Silicon Valley, where JD made his money.
Usha Chilukuri Vance, the wife of JD, is of Indian heritage. She is the first spouse of color for a Vice Presidential candidate within the Republican Party and, as a bonus, has bi-racial children. While this background should benefit reaching out to people of color and independents, it has instead brought up some resistance amongst some of the MAGA cult who seem to prefer only all-white families.
The big issue that has risen about JD is his comments that people (particularly women) who have cats and do not have children are not fit to lead our government. Cat and other pet owners have responded with amazing and often humorous responses, and JD cannot shake his statements about people without children, which are embedded in podcasts and other documents. For the record, many cannot have children, and others decide for various personal reasons not to be birth parents. Knowing that Trump is easily angered, he must be furious about how he was pushed to select JD.
JD is an ultra-right advocate who brings little or nothing to this campaign. Generally, a Vice Presidential candidate helps to bring or secure a certain segment of voters. When John McCain was advised to name Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential candidate, he believed she could bring in women voters and some right-wing advocates. However, Palin, in fact, hurt McCain’s effort to become president.
While Trump would like to say to JD, «YOU’RE FIRED,» he knows that he cannot do that because the election is too close for him to make such a major change. Some say that you will not often see Trump and JD campaigning together.
Kamala Harris has a most important decision of whom to name as her running mate. It is a major decision that will be scrutinized carefully. The Vice President should be able to step into the responsibility of the presidency in case of an emergency. A president, once elected, must bring together a team that will help govern the country at this most important time in our history.
