This past Wednesday May 31st Esperanza College of Eastern University celebrated a Technology Fair. The theme of the fair was The Future is Now. Jessica Narvaez Director of Esperanza’s Digital Skills Program said “We are happy to launch our Hope Digital Skills Initiative. Our goal is to bring technology to the Latino community and decrease the digital divide. Technology keeps evolving and we need to make sure our community is getting the proper resources.”
Several vendors were present at the fair; Miriam Health provided COVID vaccines, Jefferson Hospital showcased its digital health platform. Other vendors were Hope Works, Philly Wireless and Comcast Essentials. Esperanza also had their teams from CareerLink’s work study program Bright Future Guides and its apprentice.
Attendees also had the opportunity to view our Esperanza College’s Health and Science rooms, with its one of kind Dissection Table and the TV and Podcast room. Students had the opportunity to try out the E-Sports lab and were able to compete with each other. We also promoted our Digital School Workshops, with upcoming workshops on Introduction to computers and Google Suites.
Esperanza College is one of only two Hispanic-Serving Institutions in the state of Pennsylvania, has launched the Hope Digital Skills Initiative
to advance online learning in high growth and high demand industries, including early childhood education and eSports management. The initiative also includes the Hope Digital Skills Program, which consists of workshops on computer basics to bridge the digital divide in Hunting Park, the heart of Hispanic North Philadelphia.
Special Edition! Next week, Impacto Newspaper will release an expanded version of 50,000 copies dedicated to the digital divide in disadvantaged communities, such as North Philadelphia. This initiative aims to address the urgent need for equitable access to technology. With impactful reports, inspiring stories, and practical resources, our edition will highlight the challenges faced by these communities and offer solutions to bridge the digital divide.
