Ceiba, in collaboration with Affordable Housing Centers of Pennsylvania (AHCOPA) and Community Legal Services, is hosting a free workshop to help people draft their last will and testament on July 20, 2024, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at Ceiba, located at 174 Diamond Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122.
The event will assist participants to safely transfer their home to family members through proper estate planning.
The workshop, conducted in Spanish and English, provides people with the opportunity to speak with a legal advocate to create a will.
A will is important to help homeowners ensure that their property passes to the heirs that they designate. It avoids tangled estates. It helps family members fully use the property that their parents or loved ones left for them.
In Philadelphia, too many families get stuck not being able to fully use a property because no legal inheritance papers were prepared.
Wills are essential for ensuring that family members are cared for after death. Without a will, the legal system decides the fate of the property. A will prevents family disputes, reduces the financial burden of probate, and protects the legacy intended for loved ones.
When people die without a will, state law dictates the distribution of property. This often results in lengthy court processes, legal fees, and potential loss of property. Families may struggle to claim ownership of homes, leading to foreclosures, and the loss of generational wealth.
This workshop provides peace of mind to homeowners at no cost. A will clears the transfer of your home and other property. It is better to be safe than sorry. Do not leave your family with a tangled title after you die.
