Under the theme «Strengthening Tomorrow’s Voices, Today,» the Delaware Hispanic Commission (DHC) organized the Latino Forum 2024 on Tuesday, May 7.
The event served as a platform to bring together influential Latino community leaders, public officials, political candidates, and other stakeholders to engage in discussions on key issues affecting the Latino community in Delaware.
Among the attendees were Governor John Carney and Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long.
Carlos de los Ramos, President of the Delaware Hispanic Commission, highlighted the importance of Latino unity in strengthening their voices and promoting positive change.
Rafael Collazo, Executive Director of UnidosUS Action Fund and Action PAC, was the keynote speaker at the event.
Collazo also hosts the «Bomba Live» podcast, which analyzes the most important political and cultural events from the perspective of a Puerto Rican from Philadelphia.
Throughout the day, panel discussions were held on workforce development, education, and immigration, providing updates on the latest legislation affecting Delaware’s Latino population.
One of the main goals of the event was to promote awareness of the needs of Delaware’s Latino community and encourage Latinos in the state to register to vote in local, state, and federal elections.
Out of the 104,290 Latinos in the state of Delaware, 50% are not registered to vote. Latino voter turnout in Delaware in the 2020 elections was 19,176 people. (Data provided by Voto Latino).
Delaware residents interested in verifying their voter registration status can check at VotamosDE.org or through the Delaware Department of Elections.
