The Lt. Gov. joined leaders from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department and Pennie to urge Pennsylvanians to take action in time to ensure coverage starting Jan. 1, 2025
Greensburg, PA – Lt. Gov. Austin Davis visited Adagio Health in Greensburg today to remind uninsured Pennsylvanians that December 15 is the deadline to sign up for coverage that is effective on January 1, 2025, and encouraged them to explore their options at Pennie, the Commonwealth’s health insurance marketplace.
“The Shapiro-Davis Administration wants every Pennsylvanian to have the freedom to chart their own course – and the ability to get quality, affordable health coverage is part of that freedom,” said Davis. “If you need health insurance for yourself or your family, you should check out pennie.com to shop for the best and most affordable plan for your needs, and you should do it before the December 15 deadline to ensure coverage that starts on New Year’s Day. In western Pennsylvania, there have been some changes to plans and costs, so it’s best to shop around and see what’s available.”
Anyone who doesn’t have health coverage can join the over 430,0000 Pennsylvanians who have found a quality health plan at the lowest costs through Pennie. Pennie’s open enrollment period is the only opportunity for Pennsylvanians to find affordable, high-quality health plans for coverage that begins in 2025. Due to health plan changes in the western region of the state, existing customers are strongly encouraged to review their current plans and compare their new options to make sure they are in the best plan for their 2025 needs.
“If you do not get health coverage from your job or a program like Medicaid or Medicare, Pennie is for you,” said Pennie Executive Director Devon Trolley. “Having health coverage is important to protect yourself and your family from medical costs that come with injury and illness, and to access important preventive health care services to catch problems early. We encourage anyone in need of health coverage to check out their options at pennie.com before the December 15 deadline.”
Nine out of 10 Pennie customers qualify for financial savings in the form of tax credits to help reduce monthly payments and out-of-pocket costs. All health plans offered through Pennie cover essential services like hospital care, mental health support, prescriptions, maternity care and more.
«This open enrollment period is the best time to explore available options and shop around to find a plan — even if you already have insurance. Quality, comprehensive health care coverage has never been more affordable or more within reach for Pennsylvanians,» said Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys. »PID’s focus on increasing marketplace competition has delivered more choices and greater affordability for consumers across the Commonwealth.»
Plans and prices change every year, so uninsured consumers should review their options. Anyone currently enrolled in Pennie should make sure their family size, income and contact information are up to date. For current enrollees who may be looking at a larger monthly premium in 2025, Pennie encourages them to shop their plan options in their region for quality plans at lower costs.
While December 15 is the deadline for coverage effective January 1, 2025, Pennie’s open enrollment period continues through January 15, 2025. Plans purchased after December 15 will be effective on February 1, 2025.
Pennie also coordinates with Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program and picks up where Medicaid leaves off. Pennsylvanians who no longer qualify for Medicaid because of increases in income can see large savings on private health plans through Pennie. Anyone who is no longer eligible for Medicaid and still needs coverage should consider their options during open enrollment.
Pennsylvanians looking for health coverage through Pennie can visit pennie.com or call Pennie’s customer service at 844-844-8040. Pennie’s Customer Service Center is open during open enrollment from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturday from 8 am to 1 p.m.
